NSA sale report Builth Wells September 2010

Some excellent sheep forward with females being much sought after, although some of the males struggled. Unfortunately the catalogue was not sent out until just before the sale and there was no indication of time of the sale, which started ring 8 at 10.30am so this may have influenced the lack of purchasers early on.

The show was judged the night before by Andrew Bishop who put Gill Watkins ram lamb Millend Super Gold Champion. He later sold for 500gns. Mrs Sara Gibbons Whatmore Rebel, who won the shearling ram class and stood overall reserve Champion topped the shearling rams at 500gns. Mrs Helen Rose’s 1st prize shearling ewe sold for the top price of 1100 gns with two shearling ewes from Huw Jones selling to 680 and 690 gns. The 1st prize ewe lamb from Gill Watkins, and twin to the Champion sold for 500gns. Overall clearance of females was good but shearling rams have not yet attracted the attention of enough commercial buyers, although they make a tremendous terminal sires.
